Careers at The Gerrish Township Fire Department

GTFD is a combination department in that is has full-time, part-time, and paid-on-call members. Currently the department has 7 full-time, 3 part-time and 10 paid-on-call members. Below are brief job descriptions of these various roles:

Full-time Paramedic/Firefighter – This is a full-time position that works regularly scheduled 24-hour shifts for a 96-hour two week pay period. This position is the Paramedic on duty with a Basic EMT that responds to all medical, fire, and rescue emergencies, maintains equipment and station, performs public education and community service, conducts training, and attends training.

Full-time EMT/Firefighter – This is a full-time position that works regularly scheduled 24-hour shifts for a 96-hour two week pay period. This position is the Basic EMT on duty with a Paramedic that responds to all medical, fire, and rescue emergencies, maintains equipment and station, performs public education and community service, conducts training, and attends training.

Part-time Paramedic/Firefighter and Part-time EMT/Firefighter– These positions perform the same duties as the full-time position but are scheduled or pick up one or two shifts in a two week pay period.  

Paid-on-call Firefighter/EMS Provider – This member normally does not work shifts but responds to emergencies from home or work. This member can be either a Firefighter, an EMS Provider, or both. Works as a team on scenes of emergencies and during training, performs community service and public education, and completes required training and certifications.
